   one look
man rises when truth
breaks
        tho i'm alone
        against my
        blood
        orange
        leech
raiment of sky
licking intolerance

“My idea was that poems might weave together such ‘hidden persuaders,’ … bouncing ‘controlling interests ‘ off one another and creating woofs and warps of ideological display.” Charles Bernstein, FSG Poetry

       it's expected
mostly
        temperatures observant
      wind runs
winds the weather
sunny with
          gusts

as
high as
it feels chillier

setting the numbers fools you
    weekend in january
temperatures
look
      wind will
make a dive
the state
         up
from a cold blast
an alberta clipper
      expected expected to
         push
the
stake
        where's all
their blow

  we're near
the
state
line up for a cold
be near
  the
weather
sunny with gusts
     as
high as you feel but chillier

settling
     takes
  all that rotten feeling chillier

setting
their
      blow
we're near the state
where all the
calm dissipates

  a
        bit like
night
         dropped
      on a drive
weather up
for
    a cold blast

i was there beside you, warm
but it wasn’t enough, something warm
pulling apart my skin
there, they fell
like paint peeling off store-bought canvas
they fell
we fell
and now they stand, broken—bottled—in opposition to something fallen and warm
for themselves, only, for
what else is there but life? a hat, cracking concrete, drinking the fountain of
these fonts, so righteous, standing back to back like crimefighters
guns drawn, guns drawn,
	guns drawn against the sunrise.
